𝐓𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞: Machine Learning Based Evaluation of Human Hypothetical Proteins and Validation of Their Expression. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤: My PhD work mainly focused on studying human hypothetical proteins (HPs), a group of proteins for which there is no experimental evidence of translation and functional characterization. Different bioinformatics tools and methods were used for the functional annotation of hypothetical/uncharacterized protein sequences. Different available functional annotation methods were evaluated using machine learning based models. Later, to check whether or not these sequences are translatable, proteomics based approach was used to provide the analytical basis of their identification. My study established most of these hypothetical sequences as non-coding RNAs and the products of pseudogenes rather than proteins. However, confirming the expression of few HPs at protein level made it clear that these 'hypothetical' or 'uncharacterized' proteins cannot be completely ignored.
