I hired Anne to work as a distance journalism mentor with UPI Next, the media development division of United Press International, for a UNESCO-funded project to mentor journalists in northern Uganda. As a working journalist, Anne's skills translate beautifully to her work with UPI as a distance journalism mentor and teacher. Anne has never failed to follow up on assignments and keep in touch with the Ugandan reporters, encouraging them to continue reporting despite the challenges they face. Her skills as a strategic thinker with an eye for project management has also been fundamental to our project. She also has gone above and beyond requirements of the position, submitting thorough analyses of project strengths and weaknesses. Any journalist would truly be well-served to have the opportunity to work with Anne as a mentor.

I led the social justice oriented youth leadership program Alaska Youth for Environmental Action, part of the Alaska Center Education Fund. As part of this role I learned and taught about the effects of colonization on Alaska, the relationship between climate justice and racial justice, and the importance of youth advocacy. I also collaborated with youth leaders to design and lead online summits and events.
