Working with Tamika the past six years has truly been a gift. In both schools we worked at together, Tamika has been promoted to the highest positions of leadership a teacher can be selected for. Each time, she was the stand out candidate because of her leadership and management skills, coupled with her empathy and strength at interpersonal relationships and communication. This mirrors why I have been so profoundly impacted as both a professional and a person while working alongside Tamika. She has taught me about project management, organization, time management, leveraging priorities, and truly how to optimize all parts of my work so that I can end each day successful and ready for the next. The beautiful thing is that while she was expanding my professional skill set, effortlessly and with a sheer willingness to help, she was also proving to be a great friend in the workplace. She has superior listening skills, helps colleagues navigate their emotions or resolve conflicts, and also spreads joy—these things helped mitigate lost time and boosted productivity just as her other skills did. Being on a team with Tamika has been such a special experience to me that when she had the opportunity to be a founding teacher at a brand new school, I joined her so I could do that with her. Tamika showed me over the past half-decade that she can handle anything thrown at her. I have seen her handle change with grace, new tasks with ease, and have high performance throughout it all. Thinking back on it, in the six years I’ve known Tamika, she has taught four different grades. In some ways that’s all you need to know right there before hiring her. She was consistently chosen by upper management to be placed in grades that needed the most support because that’s how strong of a professional she was. For a teacher that means a learning curve almost every year when teaching a new grade, and not only did she meet that challenge, but her students performed higher than other classes, and often the other network schools. Throughout our time working together, I have been blown away hearing the results she achieves in her classroom, the metrics announced every quarter about how Tamika moved her students from x% to x% were always met with applause in whole-staff meetings. This year alone, after a pandemic, 100% of her students were reading at or above grade level. This is not new however, I remember in my first year working with her back in 2016, I sat in a similar staff meeting at our first school and heard that her students had grown multiple grade levels in reading in one year with her. This kind of high performance is a constant with Tamika. If you want your team to achieve/surpass goals and be supported as people along the way, hire Tamika.
