I consider Ricky my first mentor in my career. Ricky was my supervisor during my internship at Schroders. Anyone who knows Ricky knows that he is genuine, hard-working, intelligent, and a natural-born leader. I think the most valuable trait about Ricky is how much he cares about people in his surrounding and how he is always willing to help. As a first year student in college, I had very minimal if not zero understanding about asset management in general, macroeconomics, or multi-asset. No matter how busy Ricky was with his work, he was always there when I had questions about projects I was working on or inquiry about the team's recent investment decisions, view on the macroeconomic trends, or how to efficiently use Excel, Bloomberg, Morningstar, and etc. Not only is Ricky helpful in answering everyone's questions, but he also motivates employees to continue learning. Even though he had a lot of work on his plate, he scheduled a two-hour timeslot every week to teach me something new. He assigned reading material and exercises ahead of time for me to study. He then used the two-hour or longer to discuss, challenge me to think deeper, and motivate me to connect different concepts together. He also made learning dry concepts fascinating by recommending great books. Because of Ricky's willingness to mentor, I found my two months of internship to be extremely pleasant and fulfilling. Ricky is not only a valuable leader, mentor and colleague with intellect and approachable personality, but also inspires me and others to further pursue asset management.
