As a multimedia journalist, I primarily cover public safety in St. Joseph and the surrounding area. This includes reporting on breaking news related to crime, fire and anything that may be of concern for the public. I also have the opportunity to report on more positive pieces like charity work being done by law enforcement and anniversary celebrations for some agencies. At KNPN, I have the opportunity to work in the fields of print, video broadcast, social media and online content. On a weekly basis, I write several articles, put together video packages, report live in studio and on location and provide live updates through apps like Twitter.

As a multimedia journalist with the Maryville Forum, I played a number of roles. I worked as a general reporter, often covering school districts, crime and lifestyles. I often wrote seven or more pieces each week, accompanying each with photos and at times video elements.I also worked as a designer while working with The Forum, working to publish content each week with a team of other reporters and designers. Because the publication was weekly, I often used social media and other online mediums to share content with our readers throughout the week.

During my senior year I worked with Griffon Update, the online broadcast for Missouri Western State University at the time. I worked as a field reporter, covering subjects in-depth as well as events on campus. I also worked in the studio, assisting producers and anchors with recorded episodes of the broadcast show. Many of the videos I produced during this time also had a written element that was published in the university's newspaper, The Griffon News. During my senior year at Missouri Western State University, I worked with the Griffon News, Western's student-run newspaper. My role was that of an in-depth senior reporter, researching subjects and requesting data for long-form pieces, but I often stepped out of that role to cover smaller stories like events on campus. My pieces usually had a photo element, and many had a video element that premiered on Griffon Update, the university's broadcast channel. During this time I also was able to design many of the pages on which my stories would be published in the newspaper.

    • Griffon Yearbook- Editor-in-Chief/ Content Manager/ Journalist
      • Jan 2014 - May 2016

I worked with the Griffon Yearbook, Missouri Western State University's student-run yearbook. I began as a staff photographer, accompanying reporters to events and interviews to capture photos for my first semester with the publication.I was asked to come back for a second semester, and it is then that I joined as a multimedia reporter, doing both writing and photography for each piece I produced. The following semester, I was promoted to the role of Managing Editor. For two semesters I took on more a leadership role, maintaining an archive of content to be used for both online and print publication, leading less-experienced students and managing issues that arose. I also worked as a designer this time, creating about 1/4 of all designs that were published during that time.My final year at the Griffon Yearbook, I was put into the role of Editor-in-Chief. During this year, I was responsible for the publication and worked to manage aspects I could while delegating tasks for my editors. Much of my time was spent managing, limiting the time I spent reporting, but increasing my time working with other reporters. I also worked as a designer during this time, creating the theme for the publication throughout the year and creating about 1/3 of all the pieces published during the year.
