My research focused on the effect of drug and exercise programs on patients recovering from severe burns. Samples of human skeletal muscle collected from patients based upon their method of clinical care for a proteomic study.Proteins were separated utilizing 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis and the gels were analyzed with Progenesis Samespot to identify protein spots of significant fold difference between the muscle tissue samples. The proteins were isolated from the gel and identified them through mass spectrometry. This research resulted in a published abstract and poster titled 'Effects of Exercise and Oxandrolone Treatment on the Proteomic Biomarkers in Skeletal Muscle (PRISM) after Severe Burn Injury in Children.' It was awarded an excellent poster presentation. Show less I worked with the Shriners Burn Hospital for Children in the Anesthesiology Department under Dr. Tushar Varma.
