I've known Becky as a colleague and as a teacher for nearly a decade. Each time I talk with her, I come away with a new understanding of composition, language, literature, and teaching. Becky has a knack for making people comfortable with themselves and with her. She then uses that comfort level to teach, even when she isn't in front of a classroom. That talent is one that teachers of all disciplines strive for, but Becky comes by it naturally. I give my strongest recommendation for Becky Briggs Olivares.

Rebecca Briggs Olivares is undoubtedly one of the finest teachers I have ever worked with. Her knowledge of and instructional ability in rhetoric and composition are superior. She is such an excellent community college instructor because she knows how to meet the needs of a wide range of student ability levels, from developmental education and ESL to advanced composition students. Rebecca also comes with an extensive repertoire of instructional techniques and tools, including active learning strategies, strong instructional technology skills, and a true gift for providing the kind of assessment and feedback that push students to do their best work. Rebecca regularly goes above and beyond what is required of her to help students succeed in her classes. She shares both copious amounts of her time and examples of own writing to demonstrate that writing is a lifelong learning process. As trite as it may be to say, Rebecca has a contagious enthusiasm for her subject matter and is quite inspiring in the classroom, possessing an unequaled ability to motivate students. She is one of those memorable instructors to whom students readily point as an inspiration and as a source of their success. In short, Rebecca takes the difficult job of teaching writing very seriously and believes in the transformational power of education. There are not many people I would recommend absolutely without reservations, but Rebecca falls quite comfortably in that category. She would be a credit to any writing program.
