I'm a design engineer co-op at Doosan-Bobcat in the Doosan Portable Power Division. I have been learning a lot about engineering design and using Creo and Windchill extensively on the job. I have enjoyed the experience, and it has validated my career goals of working as a design engineer. So far, I've completed rebranding work for two full product families - one compressor and one generator - as part of a company-wide rebranding project. In this project, I released new sheet-metal parts with the rebranded colors and updated in entirety the product family's CAD-driven BOMs. I also oversaw aspects of a compressor pre-production run related to the new product engineering team. I made design changes to solve issues found in pre-production, assisted the line in building the first units, and analyzed test data for the machines. In addition, I am working on design work for a new R&D project at Doosan Portable Power. I've applied my education in statics and material mechanics to inform my design decisions here. I have also juggled many smaller tasks such as drawing revisions and finding a solution for a supplier that had created incorrectly sized holes in a sheet metal part to rework their inventory per our specification. In the Georgia Tech Grand Challenges Living Learning Community, I learned and applied valuable leadership, teamwork, and entrepreneurship skills by tackling a "grand challenge" the world is facing today. My team extensively researched food waste to define a user need by looking through academic journals and talking to professors, industry professionals, and influencers in the space. We eventually focused on household food waste and developed a prototype smart trashcan that challenged users to reduce their waste by implementing social networking features to challenge homes to waste less than their neighbors and educate users on proper food storage and use.
