I assisted in developing and analyzing workshop activities that lead to the formulation of a new government body in Kansas City, Missouri to evaluate incoming new businesses and their potentially disruptive business models. This body is used to both determine the impact on the city to help it adjust, and it can provide insights for the incoming business to help it corner the new market in Kansas City. Patty's Packs was an idea from students in the Black Law Students Association of UMKC to help connect large food production facilities with food insecure youth in the local Kansas City Area. Our goal was to take excess, mislabeled, or otherwise rejected yet still healthy and wholesome products and get them in the hands of children in need. There is limited research to support the connection between adverse classroom behaviors and hunger in children. However, anecdotally, many of the local teachers saw improvement in their students' behavior after the project helped provide food. Show less
