CIRM Stem Cell Research Intern
-
Aug 2018 - Aug 2019
This lab experience was through a grant funded by the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) Bridges to Stem Cell Research Internship at the Sanford Consortium (EDUC2-08376). There I assisted in developing an in vitro induced pluripotent stem cell model of preeclampsia by harvesting mesenchymal cells from both preeclamptic and non-preeclamptic placentae. I also had the opportunity to briefly participate in a clinical research setting; I collected newly delivered placentae from scheduled C-sections. I would draw blood from the umbilical cord then process and catalog it into a database. I would later dissect the placenta looking for any abnormalities to section and send to pathology. I was published in three separate peer-reviewed journal articles for this lab’s work. Show less

Summer Research Intern
-
May 2017 - Aug 2017
As a summer research intern, I learned and conducted myself professionally for 40 hours/week in a biomedical laboratory. I learned various research techniques such as how to properly handle mice, non-survival mouse surgery (tracheotomy, broncho-alveolar lavage, intraperitoneal injections), RNA and DNA purification, and tissue/cell culture.
