I have worked with Brad Wellings for many years and found Brad to be a proactive, responsive and highly knowledgeable HR partner.

I worked very closely with Brad throughout his 4 years at Ertech and most recently had Brad reporting to me in his role as HR Manager. During this time, Brad evolved into a very valuable member of the senior Ertech team offering well considered, pragmatic advice. Brad has a very sound, broad based knowledge and experience across the HR business function. His analytical skills are a strength which allows him to present fact based recommendations. I would recommend Brad to anyone seeking a passionate, professional, experienced and personable HR Specialist.

It's been a rollercoaster of a pandemic but we're stronger for it. My responsibilities remains very similar to before the restructure but with a stronger focus on moving our people and culture through the three stages of Respond, Recover and Thrive as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.Key focus areas for this role will be leadership development, strengthening our performance management, and promoting the diversity and inclusion of both cultures and ideas.I'm grateful to work with incredible people, and together, we are kicking goals. Our annual employee engagement score immediately prior to my commencement was 65% versus a benchmark of 70%. Through a combination of initiatives and collaborative effort, we've seen a year-on-year increase and exceeded our 2025 strategic objective ahead of schedule, and achieved an employee engagement score of 88% versus a target of 85%.Over the years, the Club's investment in its people and culture has continued to grow, and so too has my team. This includes 2x People and Culture Advisors, an Administrator, and a Student. Show less

It doesn’t feel like work when you love your job as much as I do. This is my dream job!I have a small team consisting of one HR Coordinator and one HR Administrator. With a relatively long and stable workforce, we’re afforded a fortunate opportunity to focus our attention on employee engagement, high quality service delivery and promoting an innovative and community-focused culture.

SRG Global emerged following the merger of SRG Limited and Global Construction Services. As an ASX listed complex services provider, SRG Global’s expertise spans the entire asset lifecycle, providing engineering, construction and maintenance services across five business streams - Building, Civil, Asset Services, Mining Services including Drill & Blast, and Products. As the HR Generalist for WA, NT and SA, I take great pride in working with (not against) the Company’s Managers and Supervisors to support the day-to-day productivity and wellbeing of over 1,000 employees. By recognising the limitations of the carbon-copy “HR best practice,” and collaborating with the management team to tailor a “best fit” approach, I believe we are capable of ensuring the needs of both the individual, the team and the company are being met. Such approaches can only be realised by adopting a customer-centric focus, and having a deep understanding of both Employee Relations and the Strategic and Operational objectives of the business. This is an approach I actively encourage amongst my fellow team mates, and the two HR Officers which report to me. Having received a life changing offer only weeks after starting, my time with SRG was shorter than expected. I was however thankful for their time and the opportunity. Show less

Quite possibly one of the best appointments I have ever held, I had the pleasure of being the National HR Manager for Ertech, a civil engineering and construction contractor with offices and work sites in WA, VIC, NSW and QLD. As Ertech continued to restructure its operations within a volatile construction market, I was promoted to HR Manager and given accountability for the strategic direction and operational delivery of the HR function. Having operated within the company at a senior level for several years and gained the support and trust of the management team, this transition was relatively easy and allowed me to focus on proactive risk mitigation.Managing a department budget of 0.4% of company revenue, the HR function consisted of a Senior HR Advisor, Recruitment Coordinator, HR Administrator and up to two contract Recruiters. During my time in this role, I was responsible for establishing a Talent Management framework, implementing a Velpic e-Learning and Competency Management Platform, and building sound foundations for the move from descriptive to predictive reporting analytics. Having commuted 2-3 hours per day for four years, and now with a young family to support, I chose to accept an opportunity to work closer to home and left Ertech safe in the knowledge there had been a significant mutual benefit during my employment. In this appointment, a special thanks goes to former Managing Director, Alec Courts for recognising my potential, Justin Prince for mentoring and developing my potential, and Mick Unger for his ongoing sponsorship and support. Ertech are a national civil engineering and construction contractor with offices and work sites in WA, VIC, NSW and QLD. Having delivered against all major objectives in my final appointment with Leighton Contractors, I knew my own redeployment/redundancy was fast approaching. Thankfully, through exceptional timing, I was approached by a former customer about this opportunity (Justin Prince was previously the HR Manager for Leighton Contractors Ichthys CVL-3 Project). Working closely with Justin and the Senior Leadership team, the purpose of my position was to align human capital with the business objectives.Whilst much of my experience thus far had focused on the two extremes of Resourcing (Recruitment and Redundancies), this position delivered an end-to-end employment service as a Senior HR Generalist. As the broader construction market continued to contract following the demise of the mining boom, the team got leaner and I found myself accountable for the support of 1,000 employees nationwide, across a multi-business entity group of companies.Whilst initially very stressful, this heavy workload forced a steep learning curve and led to me being exposed to far more than the average HR Professional with equal years of experience. Something I didn’t truly appreciate until my Convenor role with AHRI. In this role, I would support the day-to-day operations and act as a change agent for organisational development. This included either leading, facilitating or coaching my customers through Employment Relations and Industrial Relation matters including Union Rights of Entry, Enterprise bargaining, Grievance Management, Disciplinary, Performance Management and Unfair Dismissal / Adverse actions claims. One of my most memorable and rewarding moments in this role was mentoring several HR interns and junior staff, and supporting the acquisition and organic growth of the NSW and QLD operations. The Australian HR Institute (AHRI) is the national association representing human resource and people management professionals. Having been a member for several years, and having been candid with my membership feedback, I was asked to act as Convener for their Northern Metro Network. In this appointment, I was required to plan, host and promote AHRI events, to network and facilitate value-adding introductions between Professionals, Students and Academics; and to represent AHRI at Professional Development and Networking Forums. This appointment afforded me an exceptional opportunity to meet many HR Generalists and Specialists across several industries at all levels of experience, to glean the challenges they face, and to learn from their innovative solutions. With only weeks remaining before the birth of my first child, I unfortunately needed to scale back on such volunteering activities but would welcome a return to such appointments as time permits. This position arose when I was seconded from Ertech to Downers as part of a professional development opportunity. Working with the General Manager of HR and the National Resourcing Manager, I was asked to use my PageUp Super-user status to deliver against three objectives: 1. Align the system setup and reporting function with the business need 2. Document the national and project-specific resourcing processes and workflows 3. Train the National Resourcing Team and HR Business Partners on PageUp processes, reporting and system capability. Show less

Having already delivered the Group’s largest inter-operating company redeployment effort, I was approached to take on a new challenge as National Redeployment Specialist. This newly developed position was tasked with championing a Group-wide redeployment effort at the beginning of an economical downturn and a major restructure of the Leighton Holdings Group. In the early stages of this position, I was required to collaboratively approach and consolidate the redeployment teams and processes of each Business Unit and operating company into a single, group-wide and nationally operating team. To facilitate the timely communication between such a large cohort, I initially hosted regular Group Redeployment meetings. Later however, I was able to use my knowledge as a PageUp Super-user, to create an online and partially automated Redeployment process which seamlessly integrated with many of the existing resourcing practices.Aided by two exceptional direct reports, Felila Asiata and Joedy Greenhalgh, we were able to redeploy over 250 people within six months. An achievement which is estimated to have saved $15m in redundancy costs. Show less

    • Recruitment Team Leader
      • Sep 2013 - Mar 2014

Shortly after receiving the promotion to Senior Recruitment Advisor, an opportunity arose where I was further promoted to Recruitment Team Leader. Working a FIFO roster to Darwin and providing frontend leadership to 5x Recruitment Advisors, 3x Recruitment Coordinators and 2x Mobilisation Coordinators, we were responsible for the blue collar recruitment of four Ichthys Project packages: the Main Civil works CVL-3 ($1bn), Operations and Maintenance Services OPS-1 ($280m), Building works BLD-1 ($126m) and the Temporary Facilities TMP-1 ($93m). To state this assignment was a challenge would be an understatement!Whilst riddled with many challenges, the most prominent was the delivery a 650 person recruitment ramp-up as part of a critical path acceleration program. This included navigating an extremely complex stakeholder environment, and meeting strict Local (50%) and Aboriginal (10%) Employment targets. These targets required us to develop and implement several specially tailored recruitment strategies and gain the support of the Local and Aboriginal community. With special thanks to Seraphine Bray and the support of her ATSI Engagement team, we were collaboratively able to not only meet but exceed both the Local (53%) and Aboriginal (12%) employment targets. One of the strategies employed was the redeployment of over 120 workers from an associated entity, John Holland, and their CVL-2 package. Little did I know at the time, but this was Leighton Holding Group’s largest inter-operation company redeployment effort. An achievement which drew attention from senior management and paved the way to my next appointment. Show less

    • Senior Recruitment Advisor
      • Jan 2013 - Sep 2013

I was promoted to Senior Recruitment Advisor whilst working on the Gorgon Civil & Underground Services Project. At this point, the project had become Leighton Contractor’s flagship project valued at $2.1bn. Such a high value led to the project being a high profile, high pressure work environment which I found exhilarating to be a part of. Reporting to the Recruitment Manager as one of the two most senior members of her team, I was tasked with leading several packages of work including a fortnightly training program and an ERMS related procedural update, whilst continuing to deliver white collar recruitment for all functions. Again, as per the previous Recruitment Advisor role, the scope of accountability was extremely broad but focused on core operational roles such as Project Engineers, Site Engineers, Civil Supervisors, Electrical Supervisors and HSE Advisors. When leave coverage was required, I would act as the project’s workforce planner, overseeing the travel and roster management of all blue collar labour via a team of site administrators. After learning all I could at Fircroft, I chose to continue my career as an internal Recruiter with the Oil & Gas Business Unit of Leighton Contractors (now CPB Contractors).Initially engaged by their Oil & Gas Business Unit, I was later seconded and dedicated to their Gorgon Jetty & Marine Structures Project, and following the successful delivery of a large scale ramp-up, moved to the Gorgon Civil & Underground Services Project. My recruitment scope was extremely broad but specialised in Project Managers, Project Engineers, Site Engineers and Supervisors across the Civil, Concrete Structures and Electrical works.Whilst in this position, I was tasked with being a Change Agent for the transition from PageUp Recruitment, to an automated PageUp Recruitment and Onboarding platform. This included active involvement in BETA testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), Train-the-trainer and continuous improvement activities. Show less

Fircroft is an international recruitment and employment agency which services a portfolio of Engineering, Oil & Gas and Mining Companies. Initially commencing as an entry-level Resourcer and progressing to Recruitment Consultant, I was extremely fortunate to have worked across many of their most prestigious accounts for the recruitment of domestic and international white collar professionals. These accounts included the tender, award and execution of a preferred supplier agreement with Chevron Australia, Inpex, BHP Billiton and a Master-vendor agreement with Woodside Petroleum. As luck would have it, I joined these accounts at a pinnacle time with Gorgon, Wheatstone and the Ichthys Projects all transitioning from Front End Engineering Design (FEED), through Final Investment Decision (FID) and into Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM). Three projects I would later work on throughout Construction and Commissioning. My recruitment speciality was technical engineering, including Subsea Engineers, Geotechnical Engineers, Planning Engineers, Cost Engineers, Project Control Specialists and Discipline Leads. The experience, guidance and mentoring I received at Fircroft formed the foundations of a successful career. To this day, many of the recruitment techniques and tips I espouse are those derived from my time with Fircroft, with special acknowledgement going to my manager and mentor, Andrew Connolly. A short but sweet stint at a Torque and Tensioning Specialist. Working within their Engineering Design department, I would use AutoCAD to develop Technical 2D drawings and 3D models for specialist subsea equipment. This assignment also included the digitisation of hard copy archives, assigning data search strings and tags, and maintaining the engineering document register whilst adhering to the Company’s Information Management Guidelines.
