Accomplishments and Duties: • Promoting partnerships with the Fund’s stakeholders in Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Indonesia, Nigeria, and the Ivory Coast, through communications between the GCFF and potential and current partners that observe cultural nuances and norms. • Designing and leading in-country workshops (Peru), four webinars (international/multi-language), and supporting meetings (Mexico) with stakeholders to identify tropical deforestation priorities and strengthen network governance. • Designed and conducted participatory action research to assess perceptions of community-based ecotourism in Maya communities. Engaged and empowered community members as research partners while implementing a culturally adapted mixed-methods research project in four languages. Research included surveys with visual aids, focus groups, semi-structured interviews, and literature reviews followed by quantitative (SPSS) and qualitative analyses. Accomplishments and Duties: • Collaborated with community leaders and organizations in a rural farming community to execute three successful community development projects with limited resources and support: improved wood-burning cook stoves, water filters, and cement floors. • Trained two local masons in improved cook stove construction. 57 improved cook stoves were installed. • Implemented Participatory Analysis for Community Action (PACA) tools to increase community engagement in projects. • Wrote two grants and received and successfully managed $7,000 USD of USAID funds. • Networked with Dominican government officials and NGO’s to gain support and fundraise for community projects. • Presented monthly capacity building workshops and community education to promote environmental conservation focusing on trash management, global climate change, water conservation, and deforestation. • Formed a chapter of the Dominican Republic national youth environmental initiative Brigada Verde. • Developed the capacity of a group of 6 mature youth in environmental education, positive classroom management, and leadership skills to become facilitators of an Ecological Summer Camp for 25 children ages 8-12. • Designed, coordinated, and ran an Ecological Summer Camp for 25 children ages 8-12. • Initiated and led a community unification movement that formed the Neighborhood Association, contributing to the overall sustainability of current and future projects for the community. • Demonstrated cross cultural awareness and sensitivity by living with host families and successfully completing a full-term of Peace Corps service. • Painted two murals in Dominican Republic Peace Corps office and community.
