The Variety Club's Myoelectric Clinic offers families with a child who has sustained an Upper Limb amputation (either congenitally or by other means), the opportunity to evaluate a state-of-the-art myoelectric prosthesis in a compassionate setting. The child and the family gain access to an entire clinic team each with differing backgrounds focused on one expertise and directive, the child's needs. In some instances when necessary, the Variety Program charity may offset the financial burden of the family in regards to offering this technology for a child. This is determined on a case by case basis. As one of the clinic team prosthetists, I'm responsible for answering prosthetic related questions for the child, their parents, case workers, etc., fitting the child with a highly functional myoelectric prosthesis when the time is right, and beginning to train the child in utilizing the prosthesis. I personally build, repair and maintain any prosthesis I fit making certain that each arm I create is ready to use when needed by the child. Show less
