As the founder and coordinator I drive the strategy, implementation, fundraising and administration of the project. Sweltering Cities is currently focussed on Western Sydney but the goal is to grow to more geographic areas over the next 5 years. I returned to the Greens NSW for a short term contract to coordinate the Greens for Newtown campaign. My duties were similar to the previous campaign in 2015. I supervised one staff member, managed communications, media and some aspects of policy development, worked with a campaign committee to direct strategy and messaging development and completed all legal and administrative compliance tasks. The campaign re-elected Jenny Leong as the Member for Newtown again with the highest vote of any Greens representative in a single member electorate and a final vote of 46.05% of the primary vote and 63.83% of the Two Candidate Preferred vote. Australian Awards Fellowship – Strengthening linkages and Capacity in Transitional and Gender Justice in Africa I assisted ActionAid Australia with a short term project by organising logistics and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement a successful fellowship program. I came on at a late stage of the program and assisted throughout the Australian segment of the program. The program was coordinated between Sydney University Law School and ActionAid Australia and involved 21 people working in transitional justice and gender justice from Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Greens for Newtown campaign was a successful campaign to win the new state seat of Newtown in the 2015 State Election. The campaign was successful in getting Jenny Leong elected as the member for Newtown with a majority of 59.3% (2cp) and a swing of 4.8%. The Greens received 45.6% of the primary vote (20,689 votes), which is the highest primary vote ever for any Green in a single member electorate in Australia. As the campaign coordinator I performed the following duties: • Coordination of communications including written, electronic and messaging for campaign activities. • Coordination and production of materials. During the campaign we produced fliers, booklets, invitations, t-shirts, stickers and newsletters. • Supported the establishment of the campaign office, including technical infrastructure. • Assisted with the development and implementation of the campaign’s strategic direction and campaign activities. I established timelines, priorities and processes for evaluation. • Coordination of the campaign and the candidate’s schedule and calendar. • Oversaw the establishment of Neighbourhood Organising teams across the electorate. • Participated in the appointment of campaign staff, including the selection process and management. I provided management for one full-time staff member. • Provided supervision and direction to over 300 campaign volunteers. • Collaborated and coordinated with external and internal stakeholders, including the Greens NSW and Australia, Greens representatives and their staff from across Australia, local community organisations, local businesses and media.
