2nd Assistant Engineer USS Ponce (AFSB 15) (I) Boiler Officer
-
Aug 2016 - Dec 2016
The USS Ponce is a unique platform and is an afloat forward staging base (interim qualified). I am in charge of ensuring the ships propulsion boilers are operating properly at all times. The day to day responsibilities are enormous including the testing and treatment of boiler water chemistry, fuel oil transfer, replenishment of fuel at sea, and personnel management. This is a challenging yet rewarding assignment due to the age of the vessel, operating environment weather (heat in the middle east), lack of qualified steam operators, and the lack of repair parts.
