I have had the pleasure of knowing Julie Wilson for one year as I interned at the General Board of Church and Society (GBCS). Julie has a pleasant demeanor and is an excellent communicator and organizer. While interning at GBCS, I reported directly to Ms. Wilson and found her to be an asset when trying to understanding the structure of the Methodist Church as well as how to incorporate mercy and justice into ministry activities. Julie is flexible in fast-paced environments and her ability to work with persons from all walks of life has made her stand out among many people I have had the pleasure working with in ministry.

Julie is passionate about her work and walk as she serves with the General Board of Church & Society. She is willing to answer questions and help one find the appropriate avenue if she doesn't have the answers.

I am leading the church through a time of transition while providing stability and visioning as the church reevaluates its self-identity and its role in the local community. At the same time, I am also leading budgeting, programmatic, and recruiting duties for continued ministries of the congregation. I facilitated the church’s connection with several new partners in ministry, both locally and globally, including offering shelter to homeless families and advocating for climate justice and immigration reform as well as partnering with a church community to repair homes in Vieques, Puerto Rico. I also assisted with worship, including preaching occasionally and leading the children’s sermon on a regular basis. I oversaw programs for neighbors in need, including those who have low income and those who are homeless. I wrote several successful grant proposals which allowed for an expansion of justice ministries, including a new advocacy program which I developed. I also assisted with worship and taught a Bible Study which engaged new people in a non threatening way.
