    • Producer
      • May 2015 - May 2023

Working at a senior level within the editorial team at Big Issue North magazine to produce the weekly street paper and related digital content. Among many other things, I produced a weekly Q&A with the vendors who sold the magazine and a wrote a weekly independent cinema column, as well as arts, entertainment and human interest stories. Other main duties include research, commissioning and editing of photography and other images, website management, magazine layout and print preparation. Big Issue North was sold across the north of England by people who had few other ways of earning an income. It was a professionally produced magazine with a focus on the issues which matter to society today including housing, homelessness, poverty, environment, campaigns and equality. It also promoted and celebrated the art, music, film, theatre and books from around the north of England and beyond. Unfortunately Big Issue North ceased publication in May 2023. Show less

Starting as a communications officer, working across the group writing press releases, updating websites and social media platforms, and working on design and print of flyers, posters, booklets and annual reports to promote a range of health, well-being, employment and support services. During this time, I also worked as a fundraiser for the Big Issue North Trust charity, writing and designing a quarterly newsletter, organising fundraising events and working with volunteers.I was later promoted to Communications Team Leader and managed the communications team, developing and delivering communication plans for services across the group, including projects such as the development of new mental health services and a client led service for drug and alcohol services users. I also, working as part of a team, organised and supported a range of internal and external events such as staff award ceremonies, review days and feedback events – seeking input from staff and clients about the development of services both externally and internally.
