Jessica was a very hard-working, reliable, innovative, dependable, and very nice Graduate Teaching Assistant. She was a big help in designing on-line quizzes for my first on-line class. My students loved her in my on-campus classes. She has empathy, a characteristic of potential leaders.

    • Visual Resources Library Technician/Curator - Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History
      • Jul 2012 - Jul 2014

I was the Visual Resources Librarian in the Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. There are two major universities in Oklahoma, the old Oklahoma A&M (now OSU) and the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. I feel blessed to have gotten a job in my area of interest (Art History) in Stillwater. It was meant to be! We are slowly building a small art library collection of traditional library materials-books, DVDs and a decent amount of art images. Most of our book materials are held in a small, but cozy reading room. I am also the printer for the art department. We have a 44" wide format Epson professional plotter printer and we'll be shopping for a new 3-D printer soon for our department! We also have a closet full of audio, video, and still photography equipment for creating both digital art and traditional art and documenting that artwork. I run a small library lab equipped with 27" iMacs including Adobe CS 5.5 premier suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Bridge) and one Windows 7 desktop for public use. We also have 4 large scanners and several small Nikon slide scanners for digitizing slides. I also set up all public presentations in the dept. and run the departmental website. The job is about 3 different jobs in 1. I have been asked several times to come and speak with art dept. classes. I do not do much classroom based instruction. Most of my instruction is one on one with students who come seeking help in the Visual Resources Library. Show less

Everything I could do, I did. I helped students with whatever they had issues with. Most questions were related to "I closed out of an application and lost my project, how do I get it back?" or "can you help me make a conference poster in Illustrator? I need it tomorrow?" Everything except lecture! I gained more experience as a T.A. than I will ever gain in my life. I also made a wonderful friend in my mentor and professor, Maude Southwell Wahlman. I gained some of my most valuable experience from that job. Every moment was a pleasure for me to be a part of. Everything except lecture! I was part of the end-processing of books, you know, after the catalogers are through with it, I would finish it and get it ready for patrons. I loved that job.
