Gregory Bish, Ph.D.

During her initial application to Gordon College, I selected Lindsey to participate in our Richard F. Gross Justice Fellows Program. This selective Fellows program allowed her to focus on expanding her personal understanding of justice. Lindsey quickly demonstrated her maturity and openness to learning as we met to discuss different viewpoints of justice. Based on Lindsey’s commitment to the program, maturity, and leadership, I invited her to return each year to serve as a mentor for the incoming cohort of first-year Fellows. In this mentor role, she has demonstrated her ability to take initiative by developing and incorporating additional events for the Fellows. Lindsey’s involvement in the college’s outdoor ropes course programs have provided her with leadership skills that she has incorporated into the program. She has made invaluable contributions to the program and investments in the Fellows. In her mentoring role, Lindsey was required to develop and lead a discussion on various selected topics from urban engagement to a Franciscan view of justice. Lindsey did an excellent job of researching and preparing herself to lead the cohort discussion and was able to draw out various views and perspectives from the different members. Lindsey prepares herself thoroughly and enhances deep conversations with thoughtful reflections. Lindsey is not one to quickly respond, rather she is intentionally reflective in her responses. She is intent on being a good listener. She is one who continually seeks to listen in order to understand and not to simply respond. She places a high value on relationships, opportunities, and experiences; she is fully present and enjoys meeting new people and gaining new experiences and does not take them for granted. The following year, Lindsey co-led, planned, and organized our week-long trip including time in Washington DC and including a border encounter in El Paso, Texas, and Juárez, Mexico. Through this program, the students met and participated with those that are providing direct service to individuals (Little Lights Urban Ministries in Washington D.C. and Ciudad Nueva in El Paso), organizations that are advocating and educating on various justice issues (Bread for the World, Center for Public Justice), and the students met directly with national policymakers on Capitol Hill. Aside from my office, her leadership is known across campus as she participates in a variety of campus organizations and student clubs. As a sophomore, she provided leadership to our outdoor and rock climbing clubs, discipleship groups, gospel choir, etc. In an effort to grow herself professionally, she chose to participate in our Launch Professional Seminar and our annual Calling and Career Conference. These professional opportunities demonstrate her willingness to seek feedback and push herself to grow in new areas. Based on my experiences with Lindsey in our year-long Fellows program, her leadership as a Teaching Assistant
