In my current role as a CAD artist and a colourist I am responsible for ensuring all print artwork is production ready for both Laura Ashley home furnishings and wallpaper range. Using textile specific software I'm able to clean/edit all artwork and ensure it is in the correct repeat and is colour separated for screen production. For textiles I also alter the layout to suit a correct centre of cloth when developed into products such as blinds and curtains. Preparing wallpaper for films to be produced also requires altering the trim for the match and join point and adding a bleed to either side of the design. As a colourist for textile production it's my responsibility to produce sample inkjet's for colour approval to then be passed on at production as a guide for bulk printing. Using BestImage software I colour match to a CAD printout supplied by the designers using LAB data. I then steam the sample and submit for approval. Once the design has been fully approved for artwork and colour I put together production packs including all data and visuals needed for each design to pass on to external printers. For Laura Ashley's partnership with Homebase I am responsible for trend analysis in design and colour where I will then collect all data and put together trend boards and a research file of sourced imagery, competitor samples and research of Laura Ashley archive artwork for possible re-design and coloration for future use as part of the Homebase wallpaper range. I also create mood boards for presentations with buyers on design and colour for the wallpaper collection and as the process moves forward I create the presentation boards for design concepts through to final selection.Other admin related duties include updating spreadsheets, arranging courier post, email updates of development to the designers, burning data of artwork for licensing and managing stock levels of stationary and printing inks, paper and fabrics.
