Designed and created a custom computational model using the software program Mathematica that predicted the Resonant Inelastic X-Ray Scattering (RIXS) behavior of cuprate superconductor materials. The model utilized solid-state physics tight binding theory and incorporated variable hopping strength, tunable excitation sites and 9 geometric lattice configurations. I analyzed interpolations of integrated signal intensity as a function of hopping strength to assist in evaluating future RIXS experiments to be performed at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Show less

Assigned 3 classes of 20 students each. The class meets once a week for a 3 hour lab period. The experiments performed were set by the curriculum. I tailored the lectures to the different learning styles (engineer vs. pre-med vs. general) of the students. I developed custom lesson plans to introduce the theoretical and experimental concepts to different "everyday experience" depending on the academic background of the students. Lab Sections taught: 1201 (General physics: Mechanics)1202 (General physics: E&M)1401 (Mechanics for Pre-Med requirement)1501 (Mechanics for Engineers)I also participated in a small group (3) of TAs alongside the Laboratory Coordinator to co-author a new Mechanics for Engineers laboratory curriculum Show less

Secretary of Physics Graduate Student Association

Sep 2011 - May 2013
As part of a cross-hierarchical team comprising UConn Physics Department Faculty and the PGSA President, specified ways to improve “time-to-degree,” a leading metric of Department performance, which was currently lacking. Team recommendations regarding advisor-advisee relations, other key data and annual progress reviews against American Physical Society measures have been implemented.Personally facilitated socialization with students in other graduate departments. Raised $2,000 to host the 100+ students at an annual graduate student Halloween party. Show less

Course Assistant
-
Jul 2012 - Aug 2012
As a course assistant, I helped develop curriculum alongside the professor in order to estimate where the students needed more practice as the course went on. I graded all assignments as well as proctored tests and quizzes.

Researched rare earth manganite perovskites as possible multiferroics (materials simultaneously exhibiting magnetostrictive and piezoelectric properties; candidates for advanced sensors). Optimized Sol-Gel processing of bulk and spin-coated thin film samples, then developed sintering protocols using thermogravimetric furnacing (TGA) to control crystal structure and phase purity. Verified crystal phase and structure through x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis; characterized electric and magnetic phases through ferroelectric testing and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) analysis.Customized LabVIEW software to automate dielectric dispersion measurements (capacitance as a function of AC frequency) for an Agilent LCR (inductance, capacitance, and resistance) meter.
