Bio
Joel Swenddal
Josh is a skilled higher-education professional with a deep knowledge of student development, academic literacies, and instructional strategies for maximizing student engagement and learning. I managed Josh directly at RMIT in the Student Academic Success unit, and we collaborated together on a number of projects focused on First-Year transitions. He is a skilled project manager who knows how do an effective needs analysis, identify measurable outcomes, engage with the key stakeholders, and perform ongoing assessment. I can say without a doubt that both student feedback and the numbers themselves showed that Josh's projects achieved their goals of developing students' learning and language skills, and enriched their potential for long-term success in university. It should also be noted that Josh is a great communicator and knows how collaborate in way that makes everyone feel they've truly been heard and respected. I would jump at a chance to work with Josh again someday.

Joshua served as my mentor teacher when I began teaching at the ALI. For one semester, Joshua and I met daily to discuss issues related to the curriculum, lesson planning, assessing students' needs and evaluating students' performance. Joshua took an inductive approach that encouraged me to reflect on my teaching and helped me develop my skills in planning lessons, delivering material and working with lower level students. His guidance and support helped me to be more effective in the classroom and allowed me to feel more confident in my own teaching.
