Paul Ransbury

It has been my sincere pleasure to work with Paul Comtois on a variety of international projects while mutually addressing commercial pilot training deficiencies at both the national and international level. We first met in person several years ago at a leadership meeting for the International Committee for Aviation Training in Extended Envelopes (ICATEE) in Washington, DC. At all times, Paul is the ideal example of both a leader and subject matter expert on many aviation safety issues including loss of control in-flight and upset recovery training interventions. Without question, Paul Comtois has my highest recommendation of professionalism, domain expertise and insightful acuity in all aspects of aviation safety from GA to commercial to military flight operations. It has been, and continues to be, a sincere honor work with him on a regular basis.

    • Director, Advanced Pilot Training Programs
      • Sep 2009 - Aug 2013

Researched and developed viable aircraft Upset Prevention & Recovery Training (UPRT) programs for aviators in both the commercial and military sector. Enhanced the training experience of aviators through solid academic programs and dynamic simulations in order to better prepare them should an upset situation occur. Employed advanced simulation devices that allowed aviators to experience dangerous flight conditions (Spatial Disorientation, Wake Turbulence, Loss of Control, Hypoxia, and other factors) in a safe training environment. Aviators can experience relevant human factors (Physiological, Physical, others) that are difficult and dangerous to recreate while airborne. Ultimately, the goal is to increase an aviator’s response to an upset condition so that he or she can safely recover the aircraft to normal flight parameters. In the military realm, designed, developed, and tested a multitude of high g profiles that allow aviators to practice and perfect a variety of high risk events in a dynamic simulator capable of >9 G's. Developed a (patented) process that maximizes the training capability of the simulator resulting in an increase in realism and more effective transfer of training. Advanced Pilot Training programs included Upset Prevention and Recovery Training, Situational Awareness, Spatial Disorientation, Altitude Awareness, and other programs related to improving human performance in extreme environments.
