When The Think Tank first arrived at the University of Chicago, we arrived connectionless and without much in the way of the plan. Matthew's guidance was a game-changer. By hooking our org into an amazing pool of university and Chicago thought leaders, Matthew played an integral role in taking The Think Tank to the next level. We are incredibly fortunate to have someone of Matthew's caliber as a collaborator.

As Deputy Vice President for Research, I serve as the Vice President’s deputy and chief strategist, ensuring the integration of all administrative functions in the Office of the Vice President for Research at Saint Louis University. In our structure, I oversee SLU’s research infrastructure including research development, pre- and post-award services, compliance, and safety. Key accomplishments include developing the GO Center, a shared services model for sponsored award support. In addition to widespread faculty satisfaction with the model, in less than five years, GO Center supported faculty have more than doubled their annual research expenditures. In 2018, we launched the SLU Research Institute with a founding gift of $50M to recruit new faculty and launch institutes that include Healing Justice and Equity, Geospatial Science, Water, and Health Informatics. I serve as the lead for the grants implementation of Workday, including Award Proposals, Awards and integration with finance and HR. I also oversees the communications strategy for Saint Louis University’s distinctive research enterprise.

The University of Chicago's Provost Office ensures the robust health of the academic environment based on intellectual inquiry and integrity. On a daily basis, the Provost is responsible for the planning, implementation, finances, and administration of the academic programs of the institution. As the Associate Provost, I provided executive-level management on all areas within the Provost's Office, including staffing and personnel, administration, project delivery, information technology, and professional development. I was responsible for planning and implementing a range of strategic academic initiatives, including staffing committees of internal and external stakeholders. The role included providing analytical support and leadership on emerging issues, including crisis management. I oversaw high-level searches for all Provost Office appointees including Vice Provosts, deans, and the director of Smart Museum. I oversaw the Title IX Office and the University's ADA accommodations. I represented the Provost and Provost's Office to academic and administrative groups across the University and at campus and community functions, including service on behalf of the Provost on the Board of the University of Chicago Press and the Board of the Graham School for Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies. Often tasked with the crisis of the day, I worked with faculty and staff to facilitate solutions and expedite responses across organizational boundaries. I also oversaw a complete revision to the Provost's Office Website and served on the oversight committee for the University's transition to Workday

The Office of the Vice President for Research and for National Laboratories (OVPRNL) oversees the conduct of research, technology transfer, program development, research computing, multi-institutional research institutes, research-related education programs and research communications at the University of Chicago. The OVPRNL is also responsible for the stewardship and management of two Department of Energy contracts for Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. Together these laboratories attract $1 billion annually in federal research funding and employ 5,000 Illinois residents. As the Assistant Vice President for Program Development I planned, initiated, and managed research program initiatives in basic and applied research at the University of Chicago and the national labs. I launched and funded high priority initiatives at the direction of the President's Science Group. By playing a leadership role in generating inter-departmental, inter-divisional, and inter-institutional initiatives, I enhanced research development University-wide. In this role, I worked to facilitate collaborations with public and private entities (government agencies, foundations, corporations, science policy organizations, national laboratories, professional organizations) around shared research priorities.

Based in Houston, TX, OrthoAccel® Technologies, Inc. is a privately held, medical device company focused on developing, manufacturing and marketing innovative technologies to enhance dental care and orthodontic treatment. The Company’s first product is the AcceleDent™ System. This system is designed to accelerate the rate of tooth movement for patients wearing braces. AcceleDent™ relies on the application of cyclic forces (sometimes described as “pulsing” or “vibratory” forces) in combination with standard orthodontics to move teeth in bone faster via accelerated bone remodeling. The removable device is used just twenty minutes per day and is similar to a mouthpiece positioner, into which the patient bites. Patients usually go about their normal daily tasks during the twenty minute activation period. OrthoAccel® has been selling the AcceleDent™ System outside the U.S.A. since October 2009. AcceleDent™ received FDA clearance in November 2011 and is now available in the U.S.A.
