The University of Alabama, Huntsville (May 2019 – July 2021): Graduate research assistant and lead researcher for analyzing the accidents in the weaving sections. Work included collecting eight years of crash data, geometric design and traffic volume data using police crash reports, Google Earth Pro and site visits; implementing techniques such as multiple imputation to prepare crash data; analyzing the causes and patterns of crashes on freeway weaving sections and frontage road weaving sections using statistical techniques. Recommending countermeasures to improve safety on weaving sections by developing crash modification factors (CMFs).Comprehensive Investigation of Bike Crash Causes, Patterns, and Countermeasures in Alabama. The University of Alabama, Huntsville (August 2017 – April 2019): Graduate research assistant and lead researcher for analyzing the bicycle accidents in the state of Alabama. This project is funded by Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). Work included collecting five years of crash, geometric and traffic volume data; analyzing the statewide causes and patterns of bicycle-vehicle crashes using ArcGIS; designing and conducting online survey to examine drivers, bicyclists understanding of cycling regulations; segmenting roadway network into homogenous sections using ArcGIS; developing bicycle-vehicle Safety Performance Functions (SPFs) for segment and intersection facilities as per Highway Safety Manual (HSM) using machine learning techniques; recommending countermeasures at prioritized segments and intersections to improve bicycle safety by utilizing the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) tool Bicycle Safety Guide and Countermeasure Selection System (BIKESAFE) for strategies and guidelines.
