When you come to the Wauwatosa Public Library, and find Maria in the Children's Library, you may have to wait to talk with her as she is often with children and their families. Observe how Maria remains focused on each child or adult she is speaking with. She gives them her full attention, respect, insight, knowledge and humor. This is why she is more than respected, she is loved by the people she serves. Always present and considering the needs of her patrons, her community. It was no surprise to see that when the library closed for 'social distancing' Maria continued story time through Facebook Live. Creative. Committed. Connected. That's Maria Schmitt. (In full disclosure, Maria & I did study together... but high school was not one of the options presented by LinkedIn.)
