A Justice of the Peace in Texas presides over cases involving traffic and other Class C misdemeanors, hears civil disputes with up to $20,000 in controversy, hears truancy cases, landlord/tenant disputes, and more. They also conduct inquests and perform marriage ceremonies. I have presided over 15,000 plus civil and criminal hearings without having a single case overturned on appeal and returned to his Court.
