Office of Quality Performance and Accreditation - I helped kick start the new Library Services program by creating a policies and procedures document for the new librarians to guide them through using our digital library and other resources. I also compiled a list of open-access public health journals and databases, as well as a glossary of library terms. - I volunteered for the 2018 Health and Wellness fair by guiding vendors as they arrived and acted as a liaison between them and the fair coordinator. Strategic Development and External Relations Fusion Center -I attended the Statewide Opioid Safety Workgroup and assisted in conducting a survey to gauge the workgroups priorities when addressing the opioid crisis. I then categorized the answers and transcribed the survey results into an Excel spreadsheet for the Fusion Center to use in future decision-making. -I did research on income inequality and social determinants of health to find important themes and key messages and created a report of the research results. -I assisted in the Let's Get Healthy California initiative by researching best practices for state health improvement plans and health assessments and assisted in creating an outline for California's 5-year refresh of the state health improvement plan. Safe and Active Communities Branch -To ensure that the SAMHSA Treatment Locator Tool is up to date and accurate, I contacted 20 local health departments of the counties in California with the highest burden of substance abuse, and retrieved their lists of substance abuse treatment resources. I then cross-referenced them with the resources from the SAMHSA Treatment Locator Tool and created a spreadsheet of all the resources and indicated whether or not SAMHSA has them.

    • Wellness Intern
      • Feb 2018 - May 2018

I researched and wrote monthly health articles for the website, as well as weekly information sheets for campaign participants. In addition I liaised between departments and vendors for event and program planning by preparing memos and email and phone correspondence. I helped with logistics for Walk to Work Day, as well as the four employee wellness fairs. I identified items needing to be purchased for our booth, as well as office supplies for day to day work. I helped determine alternate work plans due to changing priorities. I conducted 2 wellness class audits to evaluate attendance rates and effectiveness. I also helped launch and manage the Instagram page. In this internship, I had to routinely prioritize my workload week-to-week, and work with minimal supervision.

    • Nutrition Environment Measures Study Volunteer
      • Jul 2017 - Aug 2017

Collected data for the NEMS food environment survey around San Jose State University, Santa Clara University, and San Jose City College. I visited grocery stores and convenient stores within a 1-mile radius of each school and filled out in-depth surveys for each one, looking at whether produce and healthy foods were available, distinguishing costs between healthy foods and their non-healthy counterparts (i.e. white bread vs whole wheat bread), and comparing shelf space for those products. I then provided the findings to Dr. Marjorie Freedman to continue her research study.
