  I will lead a group of 10 EL students with limited English proficiency on a service learning project in which students will investigate and craft a response to a particular problem or issue. Some issues for students to consider will be identified in advance to enable the teacher to plan initial lessons. Students will help to define what the final project/service will be. Developing students' vocabulary and English speaking, listening and writing skills will be incorporated into the project work. A behavior specialist and group leader will be assigned to the cohort to help support students in their project work, and some coaching support is available for teachers who are new to service learning. Develop instructional plans to introduce students to service learning and structure opportunities for students to explore a specific issue or area of concern/need. • Facilitate students in the identification of a final project and guide their completion of the project. • Incorporate instruction and student practice with vocabulary and speaking, writing, and listening in English. • Develop pre and post surveys to assess English improvement which may include journal writing, pre and post student interviews, etc. • Incorporate strategies and activities that develop students’ social emotional skills. • Supervise an assistant instructor who may be a college student or an Americorps Fellow. • Support students in following the program’s health and safety procedures. • Support and build in accommodations for students on IEPs and Behavior Plans. • Communicate specific student needs to Site Director • Participate in 2 staff training meetings prior to program opening and periodic staff meetings Show less
