Bio
Miriam Temin
Kelly is a once-in-a-lifetime colleague, collaborator, mentor, visionary, and source of inspiration. I never failed to be impressed and energized by how Kelly uses her intelligence, knowledge, skills, and perspective to take on deeply challenging social problems in both sub-Saharan Africa and the US. Her calm, considerate demeanor and commitment to giving others a voice make her an excellent teacher/trainer as well.

I led research projects focused on reducing gender-based violence and improving the health and economic well-being of excluded girls and young women throughout the Global South and Indigenous North. I authored many policy and peer-reviewed publications, including “Investing When It Counts: Generating the evidence base for policies and programs for very young adolescents.” I served on a number of advisory committees, including as human subjects ethics reviewer for IRBs, and on NIH study sections. At NIWRC I contributed expertise on research and program evaluation and strengthening, including provision of technical assistance to tribal domestic violence (DV) programs, as well as evaluation of NIWRC's capacity strengthening initiatives and public events. I led the Strong Hearts Native Helpline management and staff through a participatory logical framework construction exercise that was instrumental to their fundraising efforts. During my post-doctoral training, I was involved in two large longitudinal evaluation projects that assessed the qualitative and quantitative impacts of: (1) a multi-site agricultural training program designed to increase women's empowerment, food security and home food production among rural poor households in Bangladesh; (2) a municipal-sponsored child care and feeding program designed to increase child well-being and mothers' labor force participation among poor indigenous women residing in the slums of Guatemala City.
