During my time as Editor at PCIAW (formally Professional Clothing director-e), I took charge of publishing PCIAW®VOICE - the ONLY magazine dedicated to the entire professional clothing industry, covering all aspects of Corporatewear, Workwear, PPE and Accessories. As well as putting together the print magazine (brainstorming content, selling advertising space, writing features, sourcing news), I managed all social media channels and growth, attended networking events and expos and managed the small editorial team.A large part of my role involved creating, building and nurturing client relationships within the PPE industry and selling advertising space and features.I also helped to plan and manage the annual awards ceremony, the PCIAW® Awards.

In my role, I reviewed live shows, new music releases and music festivals. I also interviewed bands and artists and helped look after social platforms too. Additionally, I helped to run the editorial team, uploading content to the website and reaching out to various PR companies for show allocation and review opportunities. Most notably, I attended the music festival Lost Village on behalf of the publication, in which I reviewed my time spent there and the line-up, approached new artists for interview opportunities and participated in networking, too.

I was commissioned to write blog posts on a variety of different subjects for Metro's blog section, ranging from humorous posts about what it's like to live with an ex-boyfriend after a break up to the struggles of still living at home in your late twenties.Read 👉 https://metro.co.uk/author/louise-joy/ I was commissioned to write blog posts on a variety of different subjects for Metro's blog section, ranging from humorous posts about what it's like to live with an ex-boyfriend after a break up to the struggles of still living at home in your late twenties.Read 👉 https://metro.co.uk/author/louise-joy/

This role involved me running an online team of writers and overseeing all live content. The position saw me creating a schedule among writers, helping encourage and brainstorm new ideas for both print and online and subbing content before making it live. In this role of an editorial assistant for Yandell Media Group, I contributed to an array of travel related supplements. Although I specialized in Group Leisure magazine, I also contributed to sister publications School Travel Organiser and others. My day to day work included working on the Group Leisure and School Travel Organise websites, updating them with news and features, and running the social media accounts. My role also included involvement in print publications, submitting ideas, writing features and putting together a weekly newsletter.

My main responsibilities as a Sales Assistant were to serve customers on the shop floor, deal with customer requests and help either prep the store at the start of the day or tidy and wind down the store at the end of the day. I also worked delivery shifts which saw me prepping stock for the shop floor and learning all about the latest fashions to come into the store.I learned a lot of skills during my time working in retail from dealing with difficult customer requests and keeping a level head in busy or stressful situations, to working as a team and supporting other members of staff.

My role at Next was an interesting mix of retail and admin. My main responsibilities were to look after all returned items to store and prep them further so they could then be moved onto another central location.I worked with other members of the team to obtain items from all over the shop and my specific role was to scan items and package them.As well as this, I also took on a lot of admin responsibility. I helped to set everything up at the beginning of the day, counting tills and setting them up, dealing with banking and all day to day paperwork such as store reconciliation and more. I also helped investigate if any till was short - and why.

For a short period, I volunteered for TV Bedfordshire, an internet community television channel. We provided the community with access to information, education and entertainment programmes via a Youtube channel. My role involved blogging about what was going on and talking about all the behind the scenes plans, and I also had a very hands on role when it came to putting together features. One role I was particularly proud of was attending AmpRocks festival where I interviewed and took photographs - it was at this event and another that I also dabbled in presenting.I particularly enjoyed this time freelancing as for a while now I have been drawn to the idea of going into a more productive role, similar to what I learned at college. Presenting my own Youtube channel interviewing local bands and helping promote them is something I am now looking at launching in my own time.

I was lucky enough to receive work experience here at TUI in the hope to improve my writing skills and learn a little bit more about travel journalism, which is something I'd like to go into further in future. As well as learning about how the company worked and all the different roles and responsibilities, I also had the opportunity to attempt some features for the blog and their brochures. What I found most interesting was learning about the subtle differences in tone and language they used for different brochures. I also got some great feedback on my work and overall it encouraged me to further try for a career in travel journalism in future as it was something I really enjoyed.
