Sujan Raj Adhikari worked for me in the National Society for Earthquake Technology – Nepal (NSET) for about 8 years before he joined his PhD research in in Multi-hazard Risk and Resilience with an emphasis in Seismic Site Characterization with Hazard and Risk Analyses in Western University, Ontario, Canada. As a Senior Geologist, he was responsible for all inputs related to geologic, geomorphologic, and hydrologic hazards mapping and risk assessment for NSET’s projects on Seismic Building Code Implementation in about 20 urban municipalities of Nepal and School Earthquake Safety. While discharging our responsibilities, I as the Executive Director and Sujan as a Specialist, we worked together in collaboration and with a high level of mutual understanding which explains my knowledge about Mr. Adhikari's professional standing, integrity, and potentials in serving the people, government and higher education and research in Nepal. His scientific standing and research inclination convinced me to recommend him to continue his academic endeavor to pursue his PhD in earthquake science. Sujan is a hard-working, self-motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic professional. He well understands the potentials and problems of seismic hazards in Nepal and the essence of applying innovative technologies of disaster risk reduction to gradually reduce the high seismic risk our country is facing. With his high professional standing, strong powers of observation and analysis, and firm dedication towards the work, Sujan is sure to success in his scientific pursuit. I highly recommend him as a candidate for any associated scientific research, scholarship, or research team membership.
