  In 2008, I ran for the nonpartisan, at-large position of Town Councilor. I was elected Vice Mayor by virtue of being the top vote-getter among five candidates. In 2011 and 2015, I was returned to council as Vice Mayor. The position requires: • Public speaking before large and small groups • Media relations • Intergovernmental relations • Budget oversight; personnel policy and review; and town governance As a town councilor, I work and meet regularly with Virginia Tech administrators, Montgomery County staff, elected officials, and regional planners to advance the interests of our town and university. At present, I am Blacksburg’s representative to the following organizations: • Blacksburg-Virginia Tech Liaison Committee • Town-County Liaison Committee • Corridor Advisory Committee • New River Valley Agency on Aging (Alternate) • Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. • UCB Merchants Association • Virginia Municipal League Transportation Policy Committee
