I initially got to know Dr. Bell through our mutual participation as lecturers at The Sequoia Center, an addiction treatment center in Redwood City, where I first saw his lecture on finding one's own "Higher Power." It was like nothing I'd ever seen. His message was profound and his Powerpoint combined music and images and timing in ways that were inspiring. So I was honored to be a guest lecturer for his Recovery Health Care salon-style series, a regular forum in which addiction professionals and interested parties from around the Bay Area gathered to share and discuss addiction-related issues. From there, Herby and I have had many conversations about our beliefs and hopes for the future of addiction intervention, prevention and treatment - not only for the addict/alcoholic but for the family, as well. And through these exchanges I've come to deeply respect and admire his holistic, Paleo Lifestyle approach in his work with addicts/alcoholics in early recovery. Herby gets it - recovery is not a 28 day stay in rehab - it's a lifetime commitment to change in all areas of one's life because it's all interconnected - how the brain feels, the body feels, how the body feels, the brain feels. As he often says, "Addiction recovery is about getting and staying well - to do that, one must move well, eat well, think well - one day at a time for a lifetime." I highly recommend Dr. Bell and his Recovery Health Care program.

Herby is a considerate professional. He takes the time to listen and understand, without judgement, the possible factors in each individual's case, and attempts to find balance in the physical and emotional components of pain or in maintaining health.
