I am serving as the primary point of contact as Technical Committee Chairperson for the annual SkillsUSA Ohio Pin Design leadership contest. In this volunteer position, I am providing an opportunity for students to participate in an authentic and challenging 'real world' competitive event which occurs over two days each April. In this capacity, I take ownership of the operation of the event by planning and facilitating its operation. In this role, I must connect with partners in trade and industry to obtain input on the contest standards and structure. In addition to these industry partners, I also seek input from the National Pin Design Contest Chairperson to align the State standards to the governing National contest standards. I am also tasked with determining the scope of the contest, to provide supplies needed for the contest, and to provide judges and supporting technical committee volunteers in order to run the contest in its entirety and make it a meaningful and positive experience for the students I serve.
