For my masters dissertation, I conducted the first successful spawn of Mytilus edulis (Blue Mussel) in Denmark. I developed a low technological and low cost hatchery protocol for Mytilus edulis (Blue Mussel) that could be easily adopted by Danish farmers. I also identified two new novel settlement substrates that could be alternatives for the traditional spat collector. Ultimately, my research will inform local shellfish farmers of low tech and low cost measures that improve the efficiency and sustainability of Mytilus edulis aquaculture and allow for future expansion into offshore cultivation.

I am a scholarship recipient of the ACES + programme, a joint master in Aquaculture, Environment and Society across three host institutions. The first semester was conducted at the Scottish Association for Marine Science, where we specialised in general aquaculture modules and salmon aquaculture. The second semester at the University of Crete focused on marine fin-fish cultivation and marine diseases. Our final academic semester at the University of Nantes specialised in marine bivalves, refinement and analytical procedures of marine products in the industry such as GC-MS. My masters dissertation was conducted at the Technical University of Denmark.
