Jeremy O'Brien
I came to Miami University and, interested in working in sports, volunteered in the athletic communications department where I eventually became a student intern. Chad was the supervisor of all students. If it weren't for Chad's trust and mentoring, I would not be where I am today. Chad invested in me, and he trusted me to take on more and more responsibility in my time at Miami. He was my first mentor in the industry, and his willingness to use his time (on top of his sport assignments) to help develop the student interns allowed Miami's communications office to grow into the excellent department it is today. Under Chad's mentoring, Miami students have graduated and taken internships/jobs at numerous places across the industry: Texas Tech, Ohio State, Louisville then onto Georgia, USF, Boston University, the Columbus Blue Jackets, and more. Chad's ability to locate talent and dedication to developing it is truly one of his strengths. Of course, when he was not directly helping me work my sports, he had sports of his own. Watching Chad manage the PR and social media of a nationally-recognized hockey program showed me how good he was at his own work. Chad made a significant impact on the Miami Athletics brand and was a major contributor to a communications office that has been named to the FWAA's Super 11 on multiple occasions. He is a true professional, consistent motivator, and caring supervisor.

Chad was the first direct supervisor that I had in the sports industry, and I credit a large majority of my career success to him and his leadership abilities. He was able to show me first hand what it was like to excel in a sports organization, among teaching me skills such as: writing press releases/recaps, social media, statistics, and more. Chad was tasked with managing the group of 15+ students that we had with Miami Athletic Communications. He was able to make each one of us feel like we were a crucial part of the team by giving us the confidence and independence to get the job done the right way. Something that I always admired was his ability to bring together the right group of students each year. I've never experienced as good of a team culture as I did at Miami Athletics under Chad's leadership. All in all, Chad is a great employee, professional, boss and person. Whatever organization he's at will be lucky to have him!
