  At New Hanover Regional Medical Center, I worked as an inpatient dietitian doing nutrition assessments on hospitalized patients before transitioning to the outpatient Cardiopulmonary Rehab center at Cape Fear Heart Associates. At Cardiopulmonary Rehab, I provided individual nutrition counseling to patients and their family members, taught group education classes on various nutrition topics (Food & Cholesterol, Sodium & Blood Pressure, etc), and provided food demonstrations to patients showing healthier versions of popular recipes. I worked with patients in both Traditional Cardiac Rehab and Intensive Cardiac Rehab, also known as the Ornish Lifestyle Medicine program. Many of our cardiac and pulmonary patients were also diabetic, so I frequently provided one-on-one diabetes education to explain the relationship between food, blood sugar levels, and exercise.
