Thomas has been a highly-valued member of the school’s IT Department since he joined as an IT Infrastructure Engineer in 2017. In this role, Thomas is in charge of administering all IT systems and providing client support for approximately 1,400 students and 250 faculty & staff across 3 campuses. This translates to the oversight of numerous systems and thousands of simultaneously-connected devices. He also designs, implements, and coordinates school-wide infrastructure-related projects and manages the annual infrastructure budget. In addition to client support, Thomas both coordinates and provides technical guidance to team members and external consultants, and is the first point of communication for matters such as outage status, migrations, and planned downtime. As his manager, I appreciated that Thomas is proactive and doesn’t require close supervision. His broad understanding of the technical opportunities and challenges at ISB means that he is always on the look-out for ways to improve efficiency, optimize systems, and introduce sustainable enhancements that lead to maximum usability and lifespan. For example, Thomas recently led the successful implementation of a parallel and redundant Internet access solution to reduce the risk of losing Internet access. He also developed a disaster recovery solution, as well as a comprehensive back-up plan to protect school-wide data. On the hardware side, another recent efficiency spearheaded by Thomas was the restructuring of data centers and IT racks across all 3 campuses. I can honestly say that Thomas is almost never flustered. He takes challenges and unexpected situations in his stride, and works extremely well with internal and external stakeholders. He has a warm and approachable communication style, and an incredible sense of humor! Thomas is genuinely well-liked and highly-respected by staff, faculty, students, and parents.
