Working for the School of Engineering and Advanced Technology my role was a "Webmaster" type role looking after Servers, Databases and Websites. Finding ways to integrate extended functionality with existing systems. I managed Linux and Windows web servers, MS SQL and MySQL Databases and database driven websites using Classic ASP, PHP, HTML, JQuery and Javascript. My favorite part of the role was taking manual processes (ie static forms) and turning them into web interfaces that email the appropriate people a completed document. I also looked after many conference websites. From building the site, managing registrations to developing proceedings - both in booklet and electronic form (CDs, USB Pen Drives)I also managed a mailing list of 38,000 for one conference informing potential attendees of key dates, and relevant conference information. The annual yearbook was a process that I scripted (automated). It took a word document created by each student, merged the document with the students project details and images. The script then created a single document of all projects and xml which could be used to feature projects throughout our website by project, student, major and by supervisors. Show less

I worked for Datamail in Petone for a short time. My role was mail merging large tape based databases through our Fujitsu Mainframe and using cobol to lay out the data for Mass Mail printouts. I left Datamail to do an OE to Melbourne. Unfortunately it was a recession and Melbourne was the most difficult place in the world to get a job, but I had a great OE.
