I collaborate with ~35 undergraduates, graduates, and working professionals in maternal health research. More specifically, I utilize mixed-methods analyses to investigate health disparities in maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity, health policy, social determinants of health, and COVID-19. I do this by conducting literature reviews, aiding with qualitative and quantitative data analysis in experiential and statistical-based maternal health research projects, preparing manuscripts, and applying to grants. Some projects I am currently working on involve using CDC PRAMS data, Teens & Tots Data from Boston University and have contributed to the application processes of several successful grants for the lab such as the Trotula Foundation 50K Grant & the Health of New England 2.5K Grant. I am working with medical and undergraduate students to disseminate information regarding abortion and family planning with the rising tensions of a Roe. V. Wade reversal by creating themed infographics, logic diagrams, and conducting extensive literature and current event reviews. My team is currently developing a manuscript for publication showcasing the connection between increasing restrictive abortion policies and the worsening the Black Maternal Health Crisis.

      • Jul 2020 - Dec 2021

In my role, I delegated 14 maternal health scholars in social media health education dissemination totaling over 150,000 views, facilitated public events with celebrity guest speakers, and obtained stipend funding through grants totaling $52,500. I additionally created and maintained the integral lab website motherlab.org for two years before transitioning to the research committee.

I work with a team of community and public health professionals in assessing environmental and social determinants of health that either exacerbate or mitigate the current maternal health outcomes for Black women. We also conduct continuous surveillance relating to maternal health disparities including severe maternal morbidity (SMM), reduction and/or eradication of those disparities with the aim of improving maternal health outcomes for Black mothers. It was a great way to cement and expand my knowledge on these topics by teaching them, and I worked on my communication and public speaking skills as a solo instructor.

I am working with 13 Tufts University fellow undergraduate students to better understand how different immigrant communities within the Somerville population experienced the COVID-19 pandemic and how they accessed pandemic-related information through community member and stakeholder interviews. Our main aim is to center immigrant community members’ voices and highlight their stories in effort to mitigate the severe, negative impacts of the pandemic on the Somerville immigrant community. The information we collect will be disseminated through a community presentation and academic paper. Show less

In the Anti-Black Racism & Anti-Indigeneity Eugenics & Reproduction session with speaker Reverend Dr. Cari Jackson, the Director of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, I was able to hear personal stories of institutional racism, and a profound anti-racism metaphor about how racism is like standing in the rain without an umbrella created by Ibram X.
