    • GIS Analyst Volunteer for SPU Sharps Program
      • Sep 2018 - Aug 2019

Volunteering with the Seattle Public Utilities Sharps Program allowed me to leverage GIS to create an analysis for sharps discards throughout the Greater Seattle Area from 2016 to 2019. I converted all raw data collected through a GPS Trimble device to be compatible in ArcMap to create a series of maps (heat, cluster, etc). I also created a series of web maps that also displayed this information along with creating a website to host the information. The link to the webpage is listed below.

    • GIS Utility Intern

      • Perform research using a variety of methods including, but not limited to manuals, documents, and field checks• Manage and interpret various source materials such as maps, engineering plans, and hand-drawn sketches• Update and maintain tracking databases (i.e. Microsoft Access, Excel, SPU Database, third party contracting companies)• ArcMap, ArcGIS, Google Maps, are utilized on a daily basis• I am currently working on a project with "Move Seattle" doing inlet research which involves in mapping catch basins and inlets that are active but have not yet been recorded in the SPU database. This creates new asset numbers for existing infrastructure. • Map, Add & Modify Mainline and Non-Mainline repairs and also engage in map corrections for the Seattle Public Utility Department

    • Geographic Information Systems Volunteer
      • Sep 2017 - Jun 2018

I worked with AMP to create a capstone project for my Geographic Information Systems Certificate. A group of peers and I worked at various Middle Schools in Tacoma, WA and with Lincoln High School distributing surveys, and blank maps for mental mapping. The project that I proposed is to build security for understudies at Lincoln High School and to enable the students to recognize territories they find are dangerous near transportation hubs, for example, transport stops, and regions that encompass it. It's normal for students to find transport stops that are more secure than others based on experience. In this analysis, we will be identifying public transport stops surrounding the high school that students perceive to be safe and dangerous based on a scale of one to five. The idea is to find a pattern in areas that a multitude of students find unsafe and map it. This analysis is intended to help the students utilize all their resources of transportation and to help them get involved with map making in the community to increase civic engagement. It would be beneficial for students if we could identify these risky areas to help Pierce Transit, Department of Transportation, and Tacoma Public Schools minimize areas that students avoid in their paths to and from school and to allow the students to voice their concerns and solve them. (F1displays where Lincoln High School catchment boundary is in Tacoma, WA). AMP Mission Statement: -AMP empowers youth to transform their everyday experience and neighborhood knowledge into information that can be used to advocate for change. -AMP motivates action that reflects the interests, culture, and priorities of local youth. -AMP provides STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) training and pathways to higher education for high-school students who join the project.

    • Urban Field Experience: New York: Icon of American Urbanism
      • Jun 2017 - Jul 2017

This was a ten day excursion through New York city with two professors in the Urban Studies department at the University of Washington Tacoma. We studied American urbanism’s most pressing themes: immigration, industrial transition, suburbanization, gentrification, segregation, affordable housing, security, green urbanism, transportation, etc. This course uses New York as a case study for understanding modern American urbanism. Students will share time between Tacoma and New York as they explore industrial and residential transformations through a focus on gentrification, immigration, race, the built environment, and urban community.
