    • Director for Online Learning
      • Jan 1991 - Aug 2011

I served as the director for Online Learning at the Community College of Denver for 11 years. When I took on the position, there were fewer than 10 online classes. Under my leadership, the program swelled to 150 online classes. Distance education classes were not a welcome addition at the college, but with encouragement, most faculty embraced the Learning Management System. As director, I was responsible for developing new online programs within budget guidelines; providing student support: advising, technical support, institutional support; creating the schedule of course offerings; supervising, hiring and evaluating instructors and staff; tracking enrollment, retention, usage, and other data; training and supporting online faculty; coordinating program offerings with Center deans and program chairs. Accomplishments included: - Triple digit annual FTE growth in online program for 4 years - Retention comparable to classroom retention - Supervised 70+ online faculty and 2.5 staff - Managed $1 million budget - Generated $5.4 million in net revenue (2009-2010) - Offered 150 online classes each semester - Implemented quality assurance process with faculty peer review - Bi-level online faculty certification - Online student orientation - Online workshops for faculty training Because I believe administrators need to spend some time in the trenches to fully understand what student and faculty experience in the online environment, I also taught two online English classes each semester. I strove to make my classes a model of good practice, incorporating clean design, rubrics, active discussions, and quizzes into my classes. Show less
