Ben came to work for Hydreco Hydraulics Ltd for an eight week internship during the summer of 2017, primarily to develop his Computer Aided Modelling skills, during which time he quickly built on the basic skills he had, working with several components to model, draw, dimension, and tolerance, these latter items being relatively new to him, particularly to the standard expected by the Company. However, he rapidly understood the requirements and the expectations. The final 2 weeks were related to one specific project which involved working on those components as an assembly, requiring further skills in understanding tolerancing to ensure appropriate fits between mating or adjacent components. Again, Ben was able to understand and execute the requirement. By any standards this was a fast learning curve as we included not only the need to develop the modelling skills, but also the ongoing requirement to create the necessary information to take that data through to a manufacturing ready solution in terms of engineering data. Ben was always prepared to ask for help and advice, and engage in discussion, and once his University studies are complete I have no doubt he will be an asset to any business.

During the summer of 2017 I completed a 8-week Internship with Hydreco at their Poole Head office. During my time the focus was on the Modelling and Assembly of components with the aid of Solid Edge for military transmissions. Within this role I was involved in: -Measuring Components Accurately with appropriate tools (Verniers/Micrormeters) -Liaising with potential suppliers for supply of certain components -Production of accurate 3D models and engineering drafts, all conforming to the appropriate BSI standards, such as BS 4581 and BS 5814. - Constructing assemblies from modelled parts and using the assembly drafts to deduce the suitable tolerances on the components. In the 5th week, I was asked if I'd like to 2 more weeks after the initial contracted 6. I happily accepted this and the final 2 weeks entailed myself being given a mini project to work on. In this I was involved in: - As before the measuring, modelling and assembling of components -Creating a Bill of material's (BOM), to keep a log of all the parts -As before creating the components to the appropriate engineering standards Images of the part made can be seen below. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working with the company and felt as though the experience has given me a real insight into possible applications and has enabled me to develop key skills relevant to the workplace.
