Faye Wassinger
Marcail is passionate about international education and fostering intercultural experiences and relationships. We first met as classmates and later worked together when I was an intern at the Beloit College Office of International Education and she an international ambassador. She is compassionate and dedicated to her work, and made herself available as a go-to contact to support programming and services for the office. She shared her off campus study experiences by hosting tables at study abroad orientations, assisting in informational sessions for incoming students and with informal tabling during lunch hours. As a student of international relations, Spanish and French, Marcail continuously infused her intellectual background and curiosities, as well as her multi-lingual abilities into her work and truly developed a comfortable space for the students we worked with to be themselves and feel welcomed into the college.

Housing Opportunities Coach
-
Nov 2019 - Jun 2020
As a Housing Opportunities Coach I worked with low to moderate income clients to meet their homeownership goals through evaluating and creating action plans for their debt, income, savings and credit. Specifically, I advocated for clients as they navigated the rental and homeownership pathways to access affordable housing.Working in coalition with the city of San Francisco, lenders, community partners, clients, volunteers and attorneys, I facilitated communication to build community and reach mutually beneficial goals.I regularly presented and facilitated workshops; from a 6 hour homeownership readiness workshop to a general 2 hour orientation; in both English and Spanish to 50+ participants. To highlight individual and program successes within MEDA, I also wrote success stories on volunteers and clients as they navigate the housing or VITA free tax programs at MEDA and achieve their personal goals.

Informed K12 empowers public schools with information they need to build capacity so that the right teachers are hired faster, students always have lunch on field trips, and parents are notified immediately about incidents regarding their children. As an Implementation Specialist I ensured everyone who used Informed K12 at school districts felt confident and fully supported. I trained and coached school site secretaries, principals and directors to empower staff at all levels with the information. I leveraged one-on-one sessions with clients to bridge communication gaps between school sites, departments and the district office, so that, for example, subs were always paid on time across different school sites. I also actively built out the Storytelling and Impact program by regularly highlighting individual end-user experiences, creative district use of Informed K12, and early feedback about changes to district processes.

Program Coordinator- Education and Labor Rights

Nov 2016 - Feb 2018
Building Skills Partnership (BSP) is a labor-management non-profit that works in collaboration with the SEIU-USWW Union to expand educational opportunities to low-income Latino janitors and their families across the state of California. BSP hosts vocational English classes for janitors onsite at Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Oracle and other leading tech employers across the bay area. I coordinated and managed various programs (English as a Second Language, Civic Engagement, Digital Literacy, Parent-Student Engagement, Health, Financial Education) out of the Oakland office, focusing on how to break down barriers to make education more accessible to our hardest-to-reach target population. I actively built capacity and sustainability for BSP by building partnerships with employers, service organizations, responsible business owners and community leaders to expand the network of resources available to janitors and members of the community. I actively managed and supported instructors and volunteers to strengthen engagement and loyalty to BSP while producing high-impact courses for students.

Undergraduate International Ambassador
-
Aug 2014 - May 2016
As Beloit College's International Ambassador (IA), I implemented new strategies to support incoming international students. I conducted trainings on bank accounts, health insurance, campus safety, available resources and more. After receiving many questions about cultural norms, I created a "U.S. Culture Cheat-Sheet" that has been implemented into the international student orientation. I became a friend and resource for international students from around the world who sought me out for emotional, educational, and mental support throughout their transitional experience abroad. Throughout my time as an IA I organized events and programs to connect students, encourage a peer support system, and provide life-changing experiences for students experiencing a different culture.
