Working for one of the most prestigious teams within the ‘ladder to Formula 1’, my current role follows on from what I have learned during my experience and part time roles throughout university. Bringing the approaches and techniques learnt throughout my studies has set me up for success in following procedures, maintaining and autonomously working to introduce new practices within the team. Taking my mechanical understanding from previous roles has allowed me to thrive in the environments of racing and workshop settings. My duties cover safety checks, setting up of the car, ensuring that components and set-ups used adhere to the regulations set out by the FIA. Testing requirements of the competition ensure that as a team we can ensure that our operation runs smoothly and that we extract the best possible performance out of the car, which can be seen in the results of car 29 being driven by a new driver to the series but obtaining consistent and valuable results. Other duties include stripping, cleaning, performing maintenance and rebuilding high performance assemblies such as gearboxes, differentials and master cylinders. Additionally, performing hand fabrication to provide solutions to problems that have occurred has been a particular task that I have enjoyed thoroughly. Show less

For my final year Formula Student is incorporated into our design and vehicle development modules. After interviewing I was appointed as Technical Manager. This role requires an active initiative in all technical aspects of the design and build. Some of my responsibilities are to set and design the technical scope, analysis of previous events to specify targets for this years build, failure mode and effects analysis and overseeing the power train, chassis & suspension and electrical & safety areas. By analysing previous years results for teams across the competition it has allowed me to set a clear technical scope and target for my team to aim for. Being involved with the management aspects I have actively set procedures to ensure the consistency across the board for design approvals and many other processes. We are currently in the design phase with the aim to be moving on to manufacturing in the new year. Show less

2022 iMechE Formula Student - SilverstoneFor this university project I assisted in the build and event management of the car, taking more of an observational role to identify key areas of strengths and weaknesses to improve for 2023. As this is not my project and is supposed to be solely final year students I volunteered to assist in the build of the car to ensure that the car was ready to go for the event. Over the course of the five days at Silverstone I assisted where it was needed with getting the car ready for scrutineering, tilt, noise and brake tests and the dynamic events. Besides this I also spoke to various other universities to gain an insight into how they have obtained sponsorship and the organisational structure to identify areas in which we can improve our own. Following this I spoke to different companies to gain contacts for potential sponsorships and to assist us in the future for converting from an ICE to an EV.2021 Walter Hayes TrophyWith my University competing in the Walter Hayes Trophy (WHT), I have been fortunate enough to get the opportunity to work with a team of three running the #43 car. In the run up to WHT I had the workshop time to practice mid-session inspections and re-preps for when we were at WHT, along with assisting in prepping the car for the event. During the event I got the chance to run the car along with suggesting setup changes to gain a better performance out of the car. In between re-prep and sessions I assisted with driver analysis and performance and coaching sessions which I feel was a invaluable experience to gain extra knowledge from exceptional people.- Car Prep- Inspection- Maintenance- Car Setup - Driver Analysis, Performance and Coaching Show less

Shadowing a team of mechanics in the TCR UK Touring Car Championship, I took the opportunity to learn the basics of car inspection, session preparation, handling characteristic changes and working as part of a team within the paddock. This opportunity allowed me to follow, question and help seasoned mechanics perform their duties. Providing me with the practical knowledge, this opportunity gave me the skills necessary to thrive at Jamsport when given responsibilities and duties to carry out.
