Working with Darren was great as the balance is there, not a micro manager but not distant either. Darren is the type of manager who makes himself available to the team. I found that I could sound out ideas, seek out support and discuss day to day stuff (that is really is the bread and butter of a busy Learning and Development team), whenever I needed. Darren is determined in his approach and doesn't allow set backs to jeopardize plans. Its great to work with; someone who gets on board and stays with it until you finally reach the destination. He has vision and is willing to share his plans and ideas and ultimately the success. I'll miss working with Darren and I hope his next team appreciate the skill, knowledge and generosity he will bring and share.

National Vocational Learning Manager
-
May 2008 - Mar 2012
Working within the Learning & Development function as sector expert and national manager, I was responsible for work based training solutions to all 42,000 UK employees. I was required to identify needs and solutions to all levels from our operational staff to developing accredited degree level programmes for senior managers. I worked with high level internal teams and advised on behalf of Sodexo on external working groups. I managed the existing funding relationship with NES/SFA/NAS including writing Self Assessment Reports and managing Ofsted Inspections. I managed subcontractor supplier relationships in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Working closely with awarding bodies, Sector Skills Councils I developed existing internal training into externally accredited, fully embedded ‘employer direct’ learning programmes. To complement this I also worked with a University on the development of HE credits for internal management development training. I headed projects to increase levels of school leavers into the company. This included participating with many external organisations and charities. I also developed a national solution to support employees with low literacy skills (including ESOL). This has included sourcing external specialist partners, designing testing assessment tools and course content as well as managing delivery.
