The African continent is huge and very varied and presents great opportunities and some challenges. African Goververments are focused and committed to improve the live of their citizens and are investing in modern infrastructure and IT to create the foundation for secure and robust public services. This territory reaches from Switzerland and Germany, to Caucasus and Central Asia, and covers up to far-East Asia, Australia and New Zealand, including more than 50 countries. My responsibility was to promote our solutions internally within Gemalto company and of course to the market, to get known in this industry and to present this new offering to customers and partners. The project has brought many benefits to Uganda (from cash collection (over 60M US$ in 3 years) to facilitating border crossing, and the system includes an eVisa web-portal to apply for standard visa, working permit, and resident permit, and eVisa/Border stations at Entebbe International Airport. The system is also deployed at embassies and consulates and is backed-up by an AFIS. - Namibia Integrated Border Management System: this project equips the international airports and land borders of Namibia with automated document verification solution and biometrics, and all travelers are registered in an AFIS. Following its "Travel & ID" industry leading strategy, Gemalto acquired Avalon Biometrics on April 2013. With this acquisition Gemalto enhanced its portfolio with Avalon's "border control, visa management and high-end document verification" solutions. At this position, my tasks were related to educate internally about the new portfolio and to promote our solutions to Governments worldwide supporting the entire business life-cycle: identifying opportunities, creating winning proposals, building partners and agents networks, support bid management to answer tenders, and support to legal negotiating contracts. The regions under my responsibility were: East & South Africa, Latam, Central Asia and Turkey. During this period I acted in several functions during the acquisition transition period. Among my tasks were: internal evangelization of product portfolio, business development, sales, solution management (Proposal and PnL responsible), and Bid Management.

We got a great #1 Deal with Rabobank in the Netherlands to equip all the branches (+1,000) with our document verification and identification solutions. This project was pioneering on deploying Government oriented solutions into Private Entities to identify customers using ID documents, Passports, and biometrics. After the acquisition of Avalon Biometrics by Gemalto, this business was the origin for a new business within Gemalto offering called "ID Verification", and Gemalto has won 7 new customers adding more than 5 million online verifications per year. Avalon Biometrics was a software development company acquired by Gemalto in April 2013. Avalon Biometrics was fully specialized in creating biometrics based solutions for Civil Registry, ID and Passport, Border Control, Visa Management, and Automated Document Verification.
