After graduating with my M.B.A., I was offered this internship to help find executive management and C-suite candidates for private equity, venture capital, and publicly listed companies. They picked me for this role due to my creative thinking abilities and my analytical mindset. By applying those skills, I’ve been able to identify top talent in industries and roles beyond what was typically considered. I consider transferable skills and industry similarities to discover previously overlooked candidates. I communicate daily with clients and candidates, and my diverse background, international experience, and passion for customer service have all helped me excel in this role. I’ve also applied organizational skills to implement process improvements, efficiencies, and prioritization of these time-sensitive recruiting projects.

Intern: Human Resources Coordinator

It takes over 500 employees to effectively run the many departments of this premier luxury hotel...but turnover is high in hospitality, no matter what country or culture you’re in. I was selected for this internship to help with a targeted recruiting effort to get the property fully staffed with committed and engaged employees. My role included job postings, sourcing talent, screening resumes, arranging interviews, and verifying references. I also worked with department heads on their staffing needs, plans, and forecasts. While in this role, we recruited, hired, and onboarded over 200 new employees, and I helped to increase employee engagement by organizing team-building activities and social events. I also helped managers understand the perspectives of their staff and hosted training for them on employee motivation. I’m especially proud that these efforts smoothed out communication between management and staff, laying a foundation for better talent retention.

This was my first experience in the hospitality industry, and it was a great match due to my enthusiastic attitude and my passion for exemplary customer service. Besides handling guest check-in, check-out, questions, and complaints, I was in this role during the busy holiday season, with many events planned at this renowned property. I coordinated the different departments involved in the weddings and corporate events, often juggling multiple simultaneous events. This positive experience prepared me for pursuing my MBA in International Hospitality Management.
