I was involved in a project focussing on introducing water harvesting technologies as an adaptation measure to climate change among pastoralist communities in the dry lands of Kenya. My task was to investigate the socioeconomic aspects of the introduction and help the government of Kenya to better understand the opportunities and challenges related to the introduction of the technologies in these communities. The results of the investigation were used for the creation of new food security policies. Main activities: • Leadership of an environmental, economic and social impact assessment of newly constructed water harvesting technologies in rural Kenya; • Economic comparison between the project and traditional farming methods (cash flow analysis, payback period, NPV, ROI, implicit discount rate); • Workshop facilitation with community leaders; • Group and individual interviews with community members; • Identification and reporting of best practices, challenges and opportunities; • Management of on-site work; • Work in collaboration with rural communities, government, NGOs and the private sector in Sweden and Kenya.
